Fun weekend!

James and I had an awesome (but PACKED) weekend in Indiana last weekend! Friday night I flew out to Indy and James picked me up at the airport (no proposal this time, haha!) and we raced down to Bloomington because we had VIP tickets to see Michael Pollan speak at IU.  It was awesome! He spoke for about an hour and answered questions from the audience.  The IU Auditorium, who hosted the event, was absolutely packed and we were so thrilled for our VIP tickets courtesy of James' connections!  After that we went for drinks and appetizers to one of our favorite restaurants in Bloomington, Finch's Brasserie.  It is right around the corner from James' apartment so we were able to walk over there, which is always convenient and I forget how much I love walking places since I don't have that luxury where I live outside of DC!

Saturday we woke up and James made breakfast (eggs a la James is my favorite!).  Then we got ready and headed out the door because we had a noon appointment at the Indiana Memorial Union to check it out as a potential site for our wedding reception! We met the events coordinator and LOVED her, and also found a couple of spectacular rooms to hold different events in.  The best part about the Union is that it is also a hotel (and a really reasonably priced one at that) so all our guests can stay there and be literally upstairs from the reception!   This week we're trying to firm down a date and get all the location details solidified so I will have more updates soon! We are also working on putting together a wedding website so look for that link sometime soon!

Saturday night we hung out with our dear friends Caleb and Jessi and actually got to meet Jessi's Mom and Dad who were in town from Akron, OH visiting for the weekend. We had an absolute ball and James even got to take a couple of pictures with his amazing new camera.  Check out this one (actually Jessi took this one, can you tell her degree is in photography??!!!)

Sunday we had an appointment to go check out another potential wedding venue site (I'm keeping tight-lipped on this until we firm up the particulars) and James' parents came down from Indy to look at it with us.  Because they were in town, we wanted them to get a chance to meet Caleb and Jessi, so we all went to brunch at The Village Deli in Bloomington.  What fun! Then we checked out the potential wedding site, loved it (and hope it works out!!), and then James and I drove up to Indianapolis for the Avett Brothers concert we had tickets to!

The Avett Brothers were AMAZING.  I have seen them more times than I can remember (going all the way back to 2004 and 2005 when they would play downtown events in Winston-Salem!) and they sounded better than I have ever heard them sound before.  James saw them with me in Louisville last October and even he could tell a difference - he joked "Wow, they must've started practicing or something!"  They have one sort-of rare song that they don't usually play about being stuck in the midwest and wanting to get home to NC, and it mentions "Indianapolis" by name - of course they played it and everyone went crazy! (Yours truly went especially crazy for the part where they sing "Carolina, some day I'll come home").  We stayed in a hotel near the Indianapolis airport on Sunday night since I flew back to DC first thing on Monday morning.  Let me just say that I do NOT recommend 7 AM flights...yuck!  It was also hard to say goodbye after such an amazing weekend :(

This week is really busy for both me and James.  I have a huge week-long meeting in Denver, Colorado next week so we are really rushing to get everything finished in time.  James is in the midst of MBA Capstone - a week-long business simulation/competition among all graduating MBAs at Kelley.  He's also tying up all the odds and ends in Bloomington because he'll be leaving next week! Not sure if I mentioned it here or not but James is performing again! He front loaded his MBA coursework and landed a gig performing as Corny Collins in the musical Hairspray in Louisville, Kentucky for the rest of the Spring! We are so excited and I can't wait to see him perform!!!

Anyway, that's the quick update...more later! When we have time we are so excited to launch our wedding website so look for that link soon! :)
