I moved into my apartment on my birthday, and I've been buying furniture here and there to get the place set up. I wanted real wood, and James and I found an awesome looking set at a Goodwill. Except - big problem - the people who donated it had painted it in this ugly oil-based white primer (I guess they planned to paint it??). James, handyman of handymen, said we could rescue it - so I bought it for super cheap and last weekend we started on it. It basically took us a LOT longer to sand off the primer and the finish underneath than we anticipated. James did most of it while I was either at work or working from home. I'll post a picture of the finished product (getting ready to put the last coat of polyurethane on it tonight), but for now, here's the process so far. Pictures below of, what it looked like when we bought it, and after we finished sanding everything down, and then what it looked like after the first coat of stain. Incidentally, the name of the stain is "Jacobean" - when I saw the name, I knew that was the stain for me!!!

I gotta run for now....the chairs and table LOOK BEAUTIFUL after another coat of stain and one coat of polyurethane, I'll be sure and post new pics soon. Oh and if you like the new picture up top on my blog, James did it!!!!
