Long needed update

HELLO!!! Sorry I have been MIA lately....the last two weeks have been NUTS!! First and foremost, I GOT OFF THE BEACH!! WOOHOO!!! My clearance finally went through and I was staffed on the project I had been waiting on! Things have been absolutely crazy as we have some pretty serious deadlines we're up against, and I spent all week last week in Columbus, Ohio, for meetings - but other than that, things are going well. It's definitely like drinking from a fire house, and I have no idea what is going on or what I'm doing, but hey, at least I'm billable and not eating into the company's overhead anymore. I won't be travelling a lot for the next couple weeks, though, but I will be in Tampa in November and a couple more trips to the midwest for the next couple months.

In other news, my marathon training has hit a BIG snag. I've developed an excruciating pain in my left butt cheek (I know, TMI), and it basically has stopped me from running all together. I can't go two miles without being in pain so badly I have to stop. My wonderful TNT friends recommended I find a good sports massage therapist, and I did. I saw her on Friday morning here in Alexandria and she - literally - whipped my butt. I mean, WHOA. Pain. This "sports massage" was unlike any other "massage" I've ever had. The ones I've had in the past were relaxing, re-energizing, peaceful, and left me feeling calm and sleepy. Um, not so much with this one. Barb (the masseuse) literally beat my you-know-what. I didn't know something could hurt so bad as when she was working out all the knots in my butt, hip, thigh, and hamstring! She definitely thinks it's a problem related to my piriformis muscle (a muscle deep in your butt), and she did make me feel a LOT better, but she thinks I have a ways to go. I'm going to be seeing her at least every other week up to the marathon (um...cha-CHING, she is expensive, but it's worth it considering how much pain I was in!), and she thinks the marathon is still definitely doable. I just have to be really careful and diligent about seeing her, stretching all the time, and, oh yeah, icing my butt. Let me tell you how much fun THAT is - keep ice on my butt multiple times per day!!! Good thing I can work from home pretty regularly, otherwise that would get pretty embarrassing!!!!!

James got a last minute flight to DC on the cheap and came out this weekend. It's pretty awesome since because he's still in school, his schedule is a LOT more flexible than mine - so he flew out on Friday and got here at noon, and then isn't leaving until Monday morning (flying out on Monday is also what made his flight so cheap, we're pretty sure). So far we've had a BLAST! We've done a lot of sightseeing and also went to a FANTASTIC sushi restaurant in DC (Perry's if you're interested; they supposedly have a drag-queen-brunch on Sundays but we missed it since we were only doing dinner on Saturday). And today (Sunday) we went to church at the National Cathedral - it was absolutely stunning! Here are pictures from this weekend:

  1. Jay had an issue with the same muscle when he came back from Afghanistan. It gave him back trouble as well, and he went through physical therapy for a long time. He still has issues with it from time to time, so it's worth the work!
